LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech softball program will continue its fall slate Friday afternoon when the Red Raiders host Howard College in a 5 p.m. first pitch at Rocky Johnson Field.
The Red Raiders are coming off a 12-1 rout a week ago over Western Texas College in the first of eight fall exhibition games. Tech received a 3-for-3 performance in Shelby Johnson's debut in scarlet and black and also had key RBI extra-base hits from Sandy James and Adriana Perez during a five-run first inning.
Fourth-year head coach Shanon Hays was able to use the majority of his young roster in the victory as Tech is looking to incorporate a group of 11 newcomers this fall after losing a school-record eight seniors a year ago.
Howard College is coming off another successful season at the NJCAA level as the Hawks advanced to the Division I National Championship tournament for the second-consecutive year. Howard closed the 2012 season with a 47-17 overall record.
All exhibition games this fall will be held at Rocky Johnson Field and all fans will receive free admission.
