Oct. 9, 2012
LUBBOCK, Texas - Katelyn Williams connected on a fourth-inning RBI triple to help lift Texas Tech to a 2-0 victory over cross-town Lubbock Christian Tuesday afternoon in fall action at Rocky Johnson Field.
The win improves the Red Raiders to 3-0 this fall heading into three more games later this week against West Texas A&M and Midland College.
"We didn't swing the bats like I would have liked today but I was proud of our pitching staff," Tech head coach Shanon Hays said. "Lubbock Christian is a good ballclub and one of the better teams we will face this fall. Hopefully we can get the bats going again later this week."
Adriana Perez jump-started the Red Raiders in the fourth with a one-out double that was immediately followed by Williams' triple. Williams came around to score just moments later off a Gretchen Aucoin ground ball to first.
Tech threatened again in the fifth as Samantha Camello and Shelby Johnson both moved into scoring position before being stranded to end the inning. The Red Raiders finished with six total hits in the game.
The Red Raider pitching staff held off the Lady Chaps from there as Aucoin and fellow freshman Shannon Carrico completed the shutout, the first for Tech this fall. Brittany Talley and Cara Custer both tossed two innings to open the game as well.
Tech will face West Texas A&M at 6 p.m. Thursday before returning the next day for a 5 p.m. doubleheader against Midland College. All three games will be played at Rocky Johnson Field and all fans will be admitted for free.
