LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech softball team continued its undefeated fall campaign Thursday with a doubleheader sweep of Midland College, winning 4-0 and 4-2 at Rocky Johnson Field.
Melissa Ryba led the way for the Red Raiders in the opening game as the junior unloaded an opposite-field home run as part of a three RBI game. Ryba, who sat out the 2011 season after transferring from the University of Northern Colorado, also added a RBI in the second game.
The Tech pitching duo of Cara Custer and Brittany Talley shut down Midland College from there as the two combined for the first-game shutout with Cara going the first four innings and Talley closing the final three.
The Red Raider bats came to life early in the second game with Tech plating all four runs in the first inning alone, giving starter Kelsey Dennis plenty of room. Chandler Moore and Kermitria Ward came on in relief to close the game.
Tech will continue to hold team practices throughout the month of October before turning to individual work to close the fall semester. The Red Raiders open the 2012 season Feb. 9-12 at the Arizona State Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Ariz.
