Texas Tech Softball Completes Fall Signing Class
Nov. 21, 2012
LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech softball coach Shanon Hays announced Wednesday the completion of the program's fall recruiting class as nine future student-athletes signed letters of intent to join the program for the 2014 season.
The class, which includes eight high school players and one junior-college transfer, will join Lexie Elkins, who signed a financial aid agreement last Friday in order to enroll at Tech for the upcoming 2013 season.
"We're really excited about this class" Hays said. "I feel like this is the best class that Texas Tech has ever signed and I said that about last year's class and feel like up to this time that it was the case. The depth and the level of talent that we have along with the speed and offensive prowess these players bring makes up a great class."
Coming off its third-straight postseason appearance, Tech landed its largest class from the state of Texas under Hays, as eight of the 10 total signees hail from the Lone Star State. The two exceptions are Brittany Warnecke, a native of Aurora, Ill., and Kierra Miles, a Yukon, Okla. product.
"We really owe this class to the seniors that just graduated that helped us build a tradition right off the bat here and make it to where these players want to come to Texas Tech," Hays added. "These kids before probably wouldn't have considered Texas Tech, but with the success that we've had, we were able to get them on campus and let them see what Texas Tech is all about. We really got through the front door with a lot of these players thanks to the success that we've had."
The class consists of four true infielders, a pair of catchers and outfielders and then two pitchers. All 10 signees, including both pitchers, will also appear in the field and at the plate for the Red Raiders as well.
The 10-player class matches the largest signed by Hays during his tenure as Tech also had 10 players ink NLIs a year ago as well.
