Tech Women's Tennis Enters New Era

LUBBOCK, Texas -- The Texas Tech women's tennis team opens its 1997 season Friday against the fifth-ranked University of Texas Lady Longhorns beginning at 6 p.m. at the Athletic Training Center on the Tech campus.

The match will mark the first Big 12 compeition of the season as well as the first women's match of Tim Siegel's reign as Texas Tech's Director of Tennis and head women's coach.

Two time changes have been announced for Saturday's men's and women's tennis dual matches against Tyler Junior College. The women's tennis match vs TJC will begin at 1 p.m. at the Athletic Training Center. The Tech men will move to 3:30 p.m. at Lubbock Country Club.

The Texas Tech men are ranked 40th nationally in the preseason polls, while the doulbes duo of Tylir Jimenez and Ryan Shupe are among the national leaders. Sophomore Petar Danolic is rated as one of the top singles players in the nation.
