Eguiguren Named to All-Big 12 Tennis Team
DALLAS - Texas Tech senior Eva Eguiguren was named to the inaugural All-Big 12 Women's Tennis Team this season in a vote by the league's head coaches.
Eguiguren, a native of Berango, Spain, recorded an 11-10 overall record and 6-5 mark in Big 12 matches. She played the Nos. 1-2 positions for the Red Raiders this season and helped the team to a 10-11 overall record and 5-6 conference mark.
"We are very proud of the achievements of Eva," said Director of Tennis Tim Siegel. "She certainly deserves the honor of being on the first-ever All-Big 12 team. She was one of the biggest reasons that our women's tennis program had a good season and has an even brighter future. Eva is one of the toughest performers on our team and, at the number one position, she always played the opponent's toughest player."
Eguiguren also teamed with freshman Amanda Earhart to record an 11-5 doubles record, in addition to a 7-4 mark against Big 12 competition. The duo went 6-3 at the No. 1 position and 5-2 at No. 2.
Texas Tech set a school record for conference victories in a season in Siegel's first year in charge of the women's program. The team also won its first-ever conference tournament dual match with a 5-1 victory over Oklahoma State in the inaugural Big 12 Tournament in Austin.
