Feb. 1, 1997 Red Raiders Defeat Tyler Junior CollegeLUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's tennis team beat No. 1-ranked Tyler Junior College 7-2 Saturday at the Athletic Training Center. The match was Texas Tech's second of the season and the season opener for Tyler. At the No. 1 spot in the lineup, Dorota Wozniak went three sets against Texas Tech's Eva Eguiguren to claim Tyler's only singles win. Wozniak is the nation's No. 1 junior college singles player. "I thought everyone played well in singles and we had a couple of good comebacks," Texas Tech assistant coach Mary Dailey said. "In doubles we played smarter as the matches went on and were able to comeback. The Intensity level today was very good." Tyler JC assistant coach Jason Haynes thought today's match was a good opportunity to see where the team stands right now. "For our first match, I thought we played well," Haynes said. "We have a lot of things to work on. We'll work on getting stronger in doubles." Texas tech is 1-1 on the season and 0-1 in the Big 12 while Tyler JC is 0-1, 0-0. The Texas Tech women will next be in action Tuesday against Abilene Christian at 3 p.m. in the Athletic Training Center. Texas Tech 7, Tyler Junior College 2
