Texas Tech Women's Tennis Defeats Iowa State
Red Raiders Win Record-tying Fourth Conference Match
LUBBOCK, Texas - The 60th-ranked Texas Tech women's tennis team defeated Iowa State 7-2 in a Big 12 Conference match today in the Athletic Training Center and tied a school-record in the process.
The win gives the Red Raiders (8-9 overall, 4-5 in the Big 12) a tie for the most conference victories ever in a single season at Texas Tech. Head Coach Mickey Bowes' squad went 4-4 in Southwest Conference play in 1987 and finished that season with a school-record 20 overall wins.
"We played very well today, especially since we were coming off such a big loss to Nebraska on Friday," said assistant coach Mary Dailey. "We came out with a lot of intensity right out of the box and w did not have to play any three-set matches. We took two of three doubles matches which, for our team, is crucial for our success. We have worked really hard at doubles and it has shown.
"We have played well in conference matches this season. That gives us a great base to start from as we continue to build the program into one that can compete for Big 12 and NCAA Tournament titles."
