Sooners Defeat Red Raiders
NORMAN, Okla. - The Oklahoma women's tennis team picked up a conference victory as it defeated the 69th-ranked Texas Tech Red Raiders, 6-3, this afternoon.
The 53rd-ranked Sooners won four of six singles matches and lost only one in doubles.
Oklahoma improves its overall record to 13-8 and 5-5 in the Big 12, heading into postseason tournament play. With the loss, Texas Tech is now 8-10, 5-6 in the conference.
In singles, junior Kate Dunleavy started off OU with a win over Tech's Erika Fisher at the No. 1 position, 6-3, 6-3.
Both sophomore Megan Ricci and freshman Jennie Hamilton improved their overall records to 12-9 with victories over Eva Eguiguren and Misty Meyer.
Ricci still holds the Sooners top individual conference record at 7-3.
Also producing a win for Oklahoma was Stephanie Sajbert at the No. 4 position over Tech's Lucy Ravinda, 6-4, 6-4.
The only losses for the Sooners came from Red Raiders' Amanda Earhart, 6-2, 6-0 over Angela Stroup and Christine Van Regenmorter, 6-0, 6-4 over Kristen Guilford.
In doubles, the tandems of Dunleavy and Stroup, and Ricci and Guilford scored points for Oklahoma. The team of Sajbert and Hamilton suffered OU's only loss in doubles action as they lost to Van Regenmorter and Fisher, 8-6.Oklahoma 6, Texas Tech 3
