Sofya Malysheva is one of three freshmen of the squad this season. She comes to Texas Tech after being ranked as the No. 18 junior in Sweden.

2012-13 (FRESHMAN):
Played exclusively in the fall, going 4-10 in singles play and 4-4 in doubles ... lost in the consolation finals of the ITA Texas Regional Championships ... went 1-1 with Rashmi Teltumbde, 1-2 with Sandra Dynka and 2-1 with Kelli Hine in doubles.

Came to Texas Tech ranked No. 65 in Sweden and No. 767 in Russia as an adult ... has been ranked in juniors as high as No. 880 in the world and No. 18 in Sweden ... when she was 14, she won the Argayon Cup in Nivelles, Belgium and was runner-up at the Coca Cola Icelandic Open in Reykjavik, Iceland, earning her a Tennis Europe ranking of No. 128 ... she is a three-time participant of ITF events in Stockholm and advanced to the quarterfinals of the St. Petersburg Governor's Cup last summer ... attended high school at Vittra Södermalm in Stockholm, Sweden, is a native of Saint Petersburg City, Russia ... chose Texas Tech over San Diego, Old Dominion, Texas-Arlington, Southern Miss, Oregon and Nevada.
