LINCOLN, Neb. – No. 16 Vanderbilt gave No. 18 Texas Tech its first loss of the season, as the Commodores outlasted the Lady Raiders for a 4-1 victory in the first round of the ITA Kickoff Weekend at the Nebraska Tennis Center on Saturday.
No. 28 Ashleigh Antal and Sydney Campbell of Vanderbilt upset Texas Tech’s No. 25 Samantha Adams and Kenna Kilgo, 6-2. Vandy’s Lauren Mira and Georgina Sellyn secured the first point of the day with a 6-2 victory over Sarah Toti and Lynn Kiro. Nikki Sanders and Rashmi Teltumbde were trailing 3-4 to Courtney Colton and Marie Casares when the match was abandoned since the point was decided.
Vanderbilt quickly went up 2-0, when Frances Altick bested #92 Kiro, 6-1, 6-0. Courtney Colton extended the lead with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 2 over Texas Tech’s Teltumbde.
Sanders picked up the lone point for Texas Tech, as the senior won, 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (10-6) over No. 48 Georgina Sellyn. The match was decided when #102 Ashleigh Antal defeated Sarah Toti, 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (10-5).
Texas Tech will face No. 25 Nebraska on Sunday at 10 a.m. after the Cornhuskers were blanked by No. 19 Georgia Tech.
