No. 18 Texas Tech Drops No. 61 SMU, 5-2

DALLAS, Texas – No. 18 Texas Tech jumped out early and never looked back, as the Lady Raiders defeated No. 61 SMU, 5-2, at the Northwood Country Club on Saturday.
The Mustangs entered the match with just five players, giving Tech a quick advantage, after Rashmi Teltumbde and Nikki Sanders dispatched Macie Elliott and Yana Erkeeva, 6-2. Lynn Kiro and Sarah Toti won by default, securing the first match of the day.
Toti picked up a walkover win at No. 6, giving Texas Tech a 2-0 lead. Samantha Adams added a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 4 over Holly Verner to extend the margin to 3-0.
No. 58 Kenna Kilgo clinched the match after picking up a straight-set win over Anna Kate Anderson, 6-2, 6-2.
SMU earned its first point of the match when Hristina Dishkova topped Sanders, 6-4, 6-4. Samantha Czarniak Rego answered the point with a 7-6, 4-6, 1-0 (10-3) victory over SMU’s Macie Elliott.
Erkeeva closed out the scoring with an upset win over No. 92 Lynn Kiro, 4-6, 7-6, 1-0 (10-6) to close out the scoring,
The Lady Raiders now travel to Williamsburg, Va., to take on No. 43 William & Mary on Tuesday at 3 p.m. CT.
