LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's tennis team wrapped up a tough weekend of competition with a close loss to San Diego State 4-3.

Tech's duo of Tara Browning and Cigdem Duru teamed up to give the Lady Raiders an early lead with a win against SDSU's No.1 doubles team of Sarah Sansom and Dita Hauerlandova 8-4, but Tech was unable to capatilize with the doubles point in the match losing the next two doubles matches. Tech's No.2 doubles team of Katja Kovacik and Lakann Wagley were unable to overcome the duo of Indra Erichsen and Andrea Hermansen (8-4) of SDSU, while SDSU's pair of Nina Spaeth and Sisse Neilsen were able to clinch the doubles point with a 8-6 win over the Lady Raider's Erin Hunter and Durham.

In Tech's number one position Browning fell to SDSU's Hauerlandova 6-4,6-2, while the number two position Tech got on the board behind Duru's win over Alesya Vidov (SDSU) 2-6, 7-5, 6-1. Tech's Kovacic (No.3) defeated Erichsen (SDSU) 6-1, 6-4, while SDSU's Hermanson (No.4) defeated Wagley, 6-4, 6-3. Hunter fell to SDSU's number five position Spaeth 6-1, 6-4. In the number six position Durham defeated Nielsen, 3-6, 6-4, 3-3 RET.

"We had an outstanding weekend. We showed we can play with some of the best teams in the nation," stated head coach Cari Groce. "We are looking forward to next week and te chance to get after it. Our team fights hard and that is the kind of team I want to coach."

The Lady Raiders will hit the courts again next week when they will travel to Houston to face Rice on Fri., Feb. 11 and Houston on Fri., Feb. 12.
