LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech played hard against No. 38 Rice. The Lady Raiders come out on top with two doubles victories and one singles.

Tara Browning and Cigdem Duru teamed up to defeat Kimberly Patenaude and Blair DiSesa, 8-5. The doubles team of Erin Hunter and Janet Durham defeated Medeja Egic and Christine Dao, 9-8, 7-4. Lakann Wagley and Katja Kovacic were defeated by Tracie Chong and Dominique Karas, 8-2.

In singles play, Duru was defeated by DiSesa, 6-2, 6-4, at position number one, while Browning lost to Patenaude, 6-4, 6-3, in position number two. In position number three, Durham lost to Chong, 6-0, 6-1, and in position number four, Karas bested Hunter, 6-3, 6-2. In position number five, Kovacic defeated Dao, 6-0, 6-4, while at the number six position Egic knocked off Amandine Ferot, 6-0, 6-0.

"I thought we came out really early on in the doubles," said head coach Cari Groce. "The success on doubles team showed. In singles I think with the emotion of winning doubles point we did not play hard enough. You have to give credit to Rice for playing a good match. They are a very good team. I look forward to tomorrow. It should be a good collegiate match against Houston."

The Lady Raiders will wrap up the weekend tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. when they will face Houston.
