LUBBOCK, Texas - No. 19 Texas Tech methodically dissected Arizona, 6-1, en route to its sixth win of the year at the McLeod Tennis Center on Friday.
"It was truly our bester performance of the season," said Lady Raider head coach Todd Petty. "I am proud of our competitiveness today. We beat a good Arizona team."
It was the fourth straight win for the Lady Raiders, who improved to 6-1 on the season, while the Wildcats fell to 7-1.
Texas Tech opened the day with a sweep of doubles, as No. 37 Samantha Adams and Kenna Kilgo toppled Lacey Smyth and Shayne Austin, 8-4, at No. 1. Nikki Sanders and Rashmi Teltumbde cruised past, Airzona's Lauren Marker and Akliah James, 8-1, while Lynn Kiro and Sarah Toti dropped the Wildcat tandem Kim Stubbe and Susan Mc Rann, 8-5.
No. 110 Sanders then picked up a straight-set win over James, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 3, while Rashmi Teltumbde defeated Stubbe, 6-4, 6-2, and suddenly it was 3-0 Texas Tech.
Texas Tech returns to action on Sunday with a doubleheader with Georgia State at 11 a.m. and New Mexico at 5 p.m. If the Lady Raiders are able to complete the sweep, it would give Texas Tech its first 8-1 start since 1987.
