Lady Raiders Off To Best Start In 27 Years|
Nikki Sanders picked up her 88th career singles win on Sunday against New Mexico.

LUBBOCK, Texas – No. 19 Texas Tech notched another win in its belt on Sunday, as the Lady Raiders defeated New Mexico, 6-1, at the McLeod Tennis Center.
The win improved Texas Tech to 8-1 on the season. It is the best start to a season in 27 years. The last time the Lady Raiders began the season 8-1 was in 1987, when Texas Tech started the season 16-1. It is also the third best start in program history. The 1984 Lady Raiders began the season 11-0.
The nationally-ranked tandem of Samantha Adams and Kenna Kilgo began the day with an 8-5 win over Natasha Smith and Dominique Dulski. New Mexico responded with Lizette Blankers and Michaela Bezdickova topping Nikki Sanders and Rashmi Teltumbde, 8-4.
No. 110 Sanders picked up a straight-set win over Smith, 6-2, 6-1, and Adams cruised past Dulski, 6-2, 6-4, to give Texas Tech a 3-0 lead. Sanders improved to 16-5 on the season and 88-24 for her career at Texas Tech, while Adams is now 12-6 on the season and 74-56 for her career. Sanders now has the second-most victories in the modern era, while Adams ranks fifth.
No. 115 Kilgo edged Blankers, 6-4, 7-5 to secure the eighth win of the season for the Lady Raiders. Rashmi Teltumbde extended the lead to 5-0 with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Bezdickova.
New Mexico grabbed its only point of the day, when Merideth Hopson puled past Lynn Kiro, 6-3, 6-2. Beatriz Machado Santos closed out the scoring for Texas Tech, as she defeated Emily Olivier, 6-4, 6-7, 1-0.
Texas Tech must now turn its sights on the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic in Montgomery, Ala., beginning Friday. The No. 19 Lady Raiders are the second highest-ranked team in the field that features No. 16 Alabama, No. 20 Auburn, No. 23 Rice, No. 29 Oklahoma State, No. 34 Yale, No. 43 Illinois and No. 66 Yale.
