LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's tennis team dropped their first conference match today against Colorado at the Lubbock Country Club. The team falls to 3-3 as they head into Sunday's match against Colorado State at 9 a.m.

Tech's doubles continued to come up short in spite of the new addition of Brenna Jackson in the No. 3 doubles spot. The Buffalo's pair of Jendrain and Sedivec capped the point in their team's favor, winning 8-4 over Jackson and Kerryn Potgieter. The undefeated duo of Janet Durham and Samantha van der Drift came up with Tech's only doubles win of the day, improving their overall record to 4-0.

Heading into singles competition, the Lady Raiders couldn't seem to stall the Buffaloes momentum. Colorado notched in three consecutive wins in the four, three and one positions, securing the match in their favor. Both Durham and van der Drift suffered their first singles losses of the season. No. 1 van der Drift lost to Monica Milewski in three sets, and No. 3 Durham fell to Veera Nurmi 6-2, 7-5.

Senior captain Lakann Wagley notched in the only point for her team, battling back after a first set loss and defeating Colorado's Camila Belassi. "Lakann did a great job out there fighting back and getting a big win for the team," said head Coach Cari Groce. Groce, disappointed with the loss, felt her team didn't come out full force into today's match-up.

"Colorado played a solid Big 12 match today," Groce commented. "We came out really flat, and I feel we've got to try to get a little more out of our new players to finish these big matches. Also, if we can get the doubles going again, we'll be a lot better off in the long run."

The women's tennis team hosts Colorado State tomorrow, Feb. 18, at 9 a.m. at the Lubbock Country Club. For more information and complete results visit www.texastech.com.
