No. 14 Alabama Slips Past No. 21 Texas Tech

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – No. 21 Texas Tech saw its seven-match winning streak come to an end, as No. 14 Alabama edged out the Lady Raiders, 4-2, on Saturday in the semifinals of the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic.
It’s the second straight year that Alabama has topped Texas Tech. Last year, The Tide slipped past Tech, 4-3, in Tuscaloosa.
Alabama started the day by capturing the doubles point. Emily Zabor and Luicelena Perez defeated Claire Williams and Lynn Kiro, 6-3, at No. 3 doubles. Mary Anne Daines and Danielle Spielmann followed suit with a 6-2 win over Nikki Sanders and Rashimi Teltumbde.
Spielmann the upended Rashmi Teltumbde, 6-0, 6-2, to extend Alabama’s lead to 2-0. Tech’s Kiro upset No. 59 Maya Jansen, 6-2, 6-0 to close the gap to 2-1.
Zabor ousted Adams at No. 5, 6-1, 7-5, to give the Tide a 3-2 lead. But Tech answered when No. 115 Kilgo upset No. 76 Daines, 7-6, 6-2.
With Alabama leading 3-2, No. 62 Routliffe outlasted Sanders, 7-5, 7-5 to give the Tide the victory.
Texas Tech returns to action on Sunday at 9 a.m. against No. 19 Auburn in a battle for third place.
