LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech women's tennis squad (4-4) completed a doubleheader sweep by upsetting No. 21 TCU as Kerryn Potgieter clinched the upset in a three-set tiebreak.

The Lady Raiders started the match by sweeping the doubles matches for the second time today. Tech's No. 1 duo of van der Drift and Garland knocked off Macall Harkins and Anna Sydorska, 8-4, giving them a 5-3 doubles record for the year.

The Lady Raiders clinched the doubles point in the No. 2 match as Peana and Potgieter took down Katariina Tuohimaa and Kayla Duncan. The sweep was completed as Leitch and Templeton edged out Maria Babanova and Idunn Hertzberg in the final match, 9-8(5).

The singles matches began with the Horned Frogs earning its first point of the match as No. 5 Hertzberg took out Peana in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2.

The No. 1 match was back and forth with Harkins taking the first set, 6-2. Van der Drift fought back in the second set winning, 6-2, to force a third. Harkins prevailed in a tight third set, 6-4, notching the second point for TCU.

The Horned Frogs took their third-straight singles point in the No. 3 match as Duncan fought back to top Templeton in three sets, 2-6, 6-2, 6-2. The Horned Frogs were just one point away from a victory before the Lady Raiders battled back behind No. 4 Leitch beat Sydorska in straight sets, 6-2, 7-6(5).

The No. 2 match featured a competitive battle with Garland prevailing over Tuohimaa in three sets, 2-6, 7-5, 6-4. The win gave the Lady Raiders its third point of the match. Both sides needed just one point to take the victory.

The No. 6 match proved to be a tough match for both sides going into three sets. Potgieter took the first set, 6-4. TCU's Babanova fired back in the second set winning, 7-6, forcing a decisive third and final set. Babanova led the set early, 4-1, but Potgieter fought back to eventually even the set at 4-4. Potgieter stayed persistent and showed her determination winning the set, 7-6(5).



The Texas Tech women's tennis team started the day's doubleheader off strong with an impressive win over the Midwestern State Mustangs 6-1. The Lady Raiders began the match by sweeping the doubles and taking a 1-0 lead.

Tech's No. 3 duo of Potgieter and Lindsey Holcomb set the tone for the doubles matches as they stomped Midwestern State's Tonya Blair and Mica Vinson, 8-2. The No. 1 tandem of van der Drift and Garland secured the doubles point for the Lady Raiders as they beat down the Mustangs' Alex Odell-Michels and Collean Kinser, 8-2.

Leitch and Templeton completed the sweep for the Lady Raiders at the No. 3 spot in impressive form, taking out Kaja Banas and Faye D'Hamecourt, 8-4.

Tech's strong play carried over into the singles matches as No. 3 Templeton took the first match sweeping Banas, 6-0, 6-0. Potgieter dominated the No. 5 match taking out Kinser in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0. The win meant the Lady Raiders needed just one more match to secure the victory.

No. 4 Leitch came through for the Lady Raiders clinching the victory as she cruised past D'Hamecourt, 6-1, 6-2. Adding to the win column for Tech was No. 2 Garland as she coasted through her match against the Mustangs' Blair in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. Tech secured its sixth point of the match as No. 6 Lindsey Holcomb took down Vinson, 6-3, 7-5.

The final match featuring No. 1 van der Drift and Odell-Michell proved to be a tough grind for both sides. The Mustangs' Odell-Michells took the first set, 7-6, but van der Drift fired back winning the second set, 6-3, sending the match into a tie-breaker. The tie-breaker went down to the wire with Odell-Mitchell pulling out the victory, 11-9, giving the Mustangs its only point of the entire match.

Tech's next match will begin Big 12 play as the Lady Raiders will travel to take on Texas A&M on Thurs., March 12th.
