No. 18 Baylor Tops No. 28 Texas Tech, 6-1|

WACO, Texas - Baylor controlled the match from start to finish, as the No. 18 Bears topped No. 28 Texas Tech, 6-1, in the Big 12 Conference women's tennis opener on Sunday at the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center.
"Baylor was by far the more disciplined, competitive and energetic team today," said Lady Raider head coach Todd Petty. "I am very upset with the result, but more importantly the step we took in the process today. We will get better, but will have to make a decision as a team to commit to it."
The day started with Baylor's Ema Burgic and Kiah Generette topping Texas Tech freshmen Beatriz Machado Santos and Claire Williams, 8-1. The Bears then secured the point after No. 42 Victoria Kisialeva and Blair Shankle upset No. 31 Samantha Adams and Kenna Kilgo, 8-2.
Baylor (9-3, 1-0 Big 12) then reeled off three straight singles wins at No. 5, No. 2 and No. 1 to secure the team victory.
Texas Tech (9-4, 0-1 Big 12) finally got on the board when freshmen Lynn Kiro survived a three-set marathon for a 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-2) triumph over Victoria Kisialeva at No. 4 singles.
The Bears closed out the match with wins at No. 3 and No.6 for the final 6-1 tally.
Texas Tech returns to action on Friday at 4 p.m. CT for a two-match swing through California, as the Lady Raiders face No. 47 St. Mary's in Moraga, Calif., on Friday and No. 64 Santa Clara in Santa Clara, Calif., on Sunday at 4 p.m.
