LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's tennis team knocked off Abilene Christian today, 7-0. The Lady Raiders were perfect on the day posting a 4-0 record in doubles play and a 6-0 record in singles play.

In singles play at the number one position, senior Irina Tereschenko defeated Summer Beesley, 6-4, 6-3, while senior Kendall Brooks knocked off Colleen Reynolds, 2-6, 6-4, 6-0, in the number two position. In position number three, sophomore Tara Browning bested Rachel Taylor, 6-2, 7-6, 7-1, and freshman Lakann Wagley defeated Ashley Hawk, 1-6, 7-5, 10-2, to round out position number four. In the fifth position, sophomore Katja Kovacic knocked off Holly Lindloff, 6-1, 6-1, and freshman Iva Gyurgina defeated Lana Pavlin, 2-6, 6-1, 10-7, in the sixth position to round out singles play.
 

 

In doubles action, Tereschenko and Brooks defeated Taylor and Beesley, 8-3, in the number one position, while No. 48 ranked Kovacic and Browning knocked off Hawk and Reynolds, 8-1, in the number two position. In the third position, Wagley and Gyurgina defeated Pavlin and Lindloff, 9-7. Playing at position number four, freshmen Sarize Coetzee and Hristiyana Gocheva defeated Joy Israel and Lauren Yarbrough, 8-4.

"I think we still have the ability to improve as a team," said head coach Cari Groce. "Abilene Christian is a great team, and I was impressed. They made us play good tennis, and as a team we had to, and did. That makes me feel very confident for the future."

The Lady Raiders will play its next conference match in Lubbock on March 6 at noon against Kansas State.
