Women's Tennis Falls Short In Big 12 Season Opener

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's tennis team fell short to Kansas State in Manhattan, Kansas, 5-2. This was the Lady Raiders first Big 12 match. Tech is now 2-6 for the spring season. The Lady Raiders went undefeated in doubles against the Wildcats. Tara Browning and Lakann Wagley teamed up to defeat Maria Rosenber and Tamar Kvaratskhelia, 8-4, at number one. In the second slot, Cigdem Duru and Janet Durham beat Jessica Simosa and Judith Diaz, 9-7. Erin Hunter and Katja Kovacic came out on top against Tereza Prochazkova and Fernanada Da Valle, 8-4. In singles action, Tech defeated the Wildcats in only one match at the number four slot, Erin Hunter defeated Judith Diaz, 6-3, 6-3. At number one, Cigdem Duru fell short to Maria Rosenberg, 6-3, 6-0. Tamar Kvaratskhelia defeated Janet Durham, 6-1, 6-1 in the number two position. In the third slot, Tara Browning fell to Jessica Simosa after battling in three games, 7-6, 5-7, 6-4. At the fifth position, Tereza Prochazkova defeated Katja Kovacic, who also went in to three games, 2-6, 6-2, 6-1. Fernanda Da Valle defeated Lakann Wagley, 7-6, 6-0 in the sixth position.
The Lady Raiders will not be back in action until March 16-18 when they will travel to Florida to face Southern Mississippi, Florida Atlanta and Florida International. After the matches in Florida, Tech will host six home Big 12 matches.
