No. 75 Women's Tennis Loses To No. 8 Texas, 7-0

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's tennis team battled against the No. 8 Longhorns. The No. 75 Lady Raiders fell to Texas, 7-0. Tech is now 4-9 on it's spring season and 1-3 for conference play. The Lady Raiders won their doubles match at the number three spot. Katja Kovacic and Erin Hunter teamed up to defeat Courtney Zauft and Ristine Olson, 8-2. Kendra Strohm and Katie Ruckert defeated Tara Browning and Lakann Wagley in postion one, 9-7. In slot two, Cigdem Duru and Janet Durham fell to Petra Dizdar and Mia Marovic, 9-7. Tech fell in all six of it's single's matches. At number one, Petra Dizdar defeated Cigdem Duru, 6-2, 6-2. Janet Durham fell at position two to Kendra Strohm, 6-2, 6-0. In slot three, Mia Marovic defeated Tara Browning, 6-0, 6-0, and Katie Ruckert beat Erin Hunter at number four, 6-3, 6-1. Lakann Wagley fought at position five losing in the super tie-breaker, 3-6, 7-5, 16-14. In the last slot, Katja Kovacic lost to Ristine Olson, 1-6, 6-1, (10-1).
"I felt like we performed well at doubles," stated head coach Cari Groce. "I hope we can eventually use the same confidence from our doubles matches in our singles. I am pleased with our performance. We will only get better and better. We are going to practice hard and be ready for this weekend."
The Lady Raiders will play their final home matches for the season Saturday, April 2-3, at McLeod Tennis Center. On Saturday, April 2, Tech will face No. 56 Colorado at 12 p.m. and on Sunday, April 3, they will face Kansas at 11 a.m.
