LUBBOCK, Texas – No. 18 Texas Tech powered past No. 25 Oklahoma State, 6-1, Sunday at the McLeod Tennis Center, extending the Lady Raiders’ home winning streak to 17 consecutive matches.
The win also put Texas Tech (14-4, 4-0 Big 12) into a tie for first place with Big 12 Conference rival No. 24 Texas (9-8, 4-0 Big 12) – the only team in the league that the Lady Raiders did not defeat last season.
The day started with the Lady Raiders winning the doubles point for the 17th time in 18 matches this season. But it took on a different look when the match started.
Oklahoma State’s Meghan Blevins and Karyn Guttormsen jumped out to a quick lead thanks to a pair of early breaks and rolled past Rashmi Teltumbde and Nikki Sanders, 8-2 ant No. 2. Texas Tech’s senior tandem of Caroline Starck and Elizabeth Ullathorne fought off Maria Alvarez and CC Sardinha at No. 3 to win 8-6 and set up a battle at No. 1.
Ullathorne had easy work with Sardinha, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 3 to start off singles. No. 117 Adams then upset No. 60 Rose, 6-3, 7-5 at No. 1 to give Texas Tech a quick 3-0 lead.
