LUBBOCK, Texas - In a turbulent day on the courts at the McLeod Tennis Center, the Texas Tech women's tennis team took a hard loss to No. 14 Texas A&M, 6-0, this afternoon. Tech's match, originally scheduled for 6 p.m. this evening, was moved up to 12:30 p.m. due to the possibility of bad weather.

In singles action, the Lady Raiders were unable to pull out a win at any position. In the number one spot, senior Irina Tereschenko was defeated by No. 16 Jessica Roland, 7-6, 7-5. In the second position, senior Kendall Brooks lost to Helga Vieira, 6-3, 6-4, while sophomore Tara Browning was defeated by Roberta Spencer, 6-2, 6-4, in the third spot. In the fourth position, Lauren Walker knocked off Tech freshman Lakann Wagley, 6-3, 6-1, while Aggie Nicki Mechem defeated sophomore Katja Kovacic, 6-4, 7-6, in the fifth position. Rounding out singles play was freshman Hristiyana Gocheva in the sixth spot, who was defeated by Anna Lubinsky, 6-2, 6-2.

Due to stormy weather conditions, the Lady Raiders and the Aggies were unable to complete the doubles portion of today's match.

"We've got to maintain our level of play every match, especially when we're heading into the bulk of our season and the hardest part of our Big 12 schedule," said head coach Cari Groce. "Texas A&M is a very good team. I thought we fought hard, and some of them played as well as they possibly could, and others could have played better. We just need to make sure that we have everything ready to take on Oklahoma State tomorrow. I think we match up well with Oklahoma State and I don't think that that's a team we shouldn't be able to compete with."

Tech moves to a spring record of 9-6 and 2-4 in Big 12 Conference play. The Lady Raiders will compete again tomorrow at 11 a.m. at the McLeod Tennis Center against Oklahoma State. In the event of stormy weather, the match will be moved to the Nautilus.
