No. 75 Women's Tennis Defeats Kansas, 4-3

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's tennis team wraps up their home matches for the season with a victory against Kansas. The Lady Raiders defeated the Jayhawks this afternoon, 4-3, at the McLeod Tennis Center on the campus of Texas Tech. Tech is now 7-9 overall on its spring season and 4-3 in conference action.
The Lady Raiders looked to their doubles for confidence. They swept Kansas in all three double's matches. At number one, Tara Browning and Lakann Wagley teamed up to defeat Lauren Hommell and Brittany Brown, 8-5. Cigdem Duru and Janet Durham won at number two against Christina Skoda and Ashley Filberth, 8-4. In the last slot, Katja Kovacic and Erin Hunter beat Luiza Loureiro and Elizaveta Avdeeva, 8-4.
In singles action, Tech finished with victory in three of the six matches. At number three, Browning came out on top in the clinch match against Brown, 6-2, 6-3. In the fourth postion, Hunter handled Hommell, 6-4, 6-4. Filberth fell to Wagley at number five, 6-3, 6-0.
"This was a very good weekend," said head coach Cari Groce. "We came out with enthusiasm and had a ton of good play. We just need to continue to be positive and march forward. The girls must stay strong."
Tech will be on the road next weekend facing No. 12 Baylor at 5 p.m. on April 8, and No. 39 Texas A&M at 11 a.m. on April 9.
