Women's Tennis Gets First Conference Tournament Win

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's tennis team faced eighth-seeded Colorado at the Big 12 Tennis Championships in College Station, Texas, today, defeating the Buffaloes, 5-0. The win was the first post-season win for the ninth-seeded Red Raiders since hiring head coach Virginia Brown. "This was my first-ever win in the Big 12 Tournament." Brown said. "We were ready to step up today. I thought we played well as a team." Tech started the day by winning the doubles point. The No. 1 doubles tandem of Irina Tereschenko and Beverly Dawson defeated Lia Dimingo and Dominique Limperle, 8-6, and the No. 3 team of Alenka Ovin and Kendall Brooks defeated Morgan Sall and Lauren Carey, 8-1. In singles, Tech picked up four out of six points to finish the match. No. 1 Tereschenko defeated Dimingo 6-4, 6-2. Big 12 Player of the Week Brooks defeated Tracy Moore at the No. 3 position, 6-2, 7-6 (4). Tech will face first-seeded Texas in the second round tomorrow at 10 a.m. in College Station.
