Women's Tennis Falls to Colorado April 26, 2001
LUBBOCK, Texas - Women's tennis falls to Colorado Season ends for Tech with 4-1 loss at conference tourney LUBBOCK, Texas - The ninth-seeded Texas Tech's women's tennis team fell to 71st-ranked and No. 8 seed Colorado, 4-1, in the opening round of the Big 12 Tournament on the Baylor University campus in Waco, Texas, Thursday afternoon. The Red Raiders picked up their lone victory of the match at the No. 2 singles position, with Barbara Schraml posting a 6-4, 6-1 win over Lia Dimingo. Tech's 70th-ranked Irina Tereschenko split sets at the No. 1 position and was trailing in the third set to Dominique Lemperle when Colorado won the match. Beverly Dawson also split sets at No. 3 with Karoline Grauebig and was leading 2-1 in the third set before the match was called. Sonnia Orellana lost in three sets, 6-1, 3-6, 6-0, to Morgan Sall, at the No. 4 slot, while Kendall Brooks and Dana Giles were both defeated in straight sets. Colorado began the match by winning the doubles point. The duo of Graeubig and Sall handled Tech's Dawson and Tereschenko, 8-3, ending a three-match winning streak for the Tech twosome and dropping their season record to 14-4 overall. Giles and Orellana were defeated 8-4 by Dominique Lemperle and Carey at the No. 3 position, while Brooks and Schraml were losing 6-1 to Bjorkman and Dimingo before the match was called.
