April 29, 2011
WACO, Texas - The No. 22 Oklahoma Sooners ended the Lady Raiders run in the quarterfinals at the Big 12 Tennis Championship in Waco, Texas, by a score of 4-1.
"We gained a lot of experience," head coach Todd Petty said. "I thought we competed well almost all the way down the lineup. Really we just lost to a better team today. We lost some key points here or there and that's a credit to Oklahoma. They played the big points a little better than we did. It was probably a lot closer than a 4-1 score, but Oklahoma deserved to win and I wish them the best of luck as they move forward."
Tech (18-8, 7-4) started the doubles point with Elizabeth Ullathorne and Haley Fournier winning at the No. 3, 8-4. Oklahoma (18-5, 9-2) fought back to tie the doubles point with an 8-4 victory at the No. 2.
The Sooner's continued to put the pressure on Tech in singles play. Fournier dropped a 6-2, 6-1 decision at the No. 5. Tech fell behind 3-0 after Garland fell 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 4.
Nikki Sanders put the Lady Raiders on the board with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at the No. 6. Oklahoma didn't allow another point as they clinched the match at the No. 2 as Adams fell 6-1, 2-6, 6-4.
The Lady Raiders now will wait until Tue., May 3 until bids are announced for the NCAA Tennis Championships.
