ATHENS, Ga. – Texas Tech’s Samantha Adams and Kenna Kilgo have put together a season to remember for the Lady Raiders, but that season came to a close on Thursday in the Round of 32 at the 2012 NCAA Women’s Doubles Championships at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.

The No. 19 duo of Adams and Kilgo dropped a heartbreaking three-set match to No. 9 Courtney Dolehide and Pamela Montez of UCLA, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.

The Texas Tech tandem closes out the season 25-8, but more importantly the duo has laid the groundwork for the future of the Lady Raider program. It had been 25 years since a Lady Raiders doubles team had advanced to the NCAA Championships.

“I think more than anything, I am proud of these ladies,” said Lady Raider head coach Todd Petty. “We have laid the foundation for a bright future.”

Texas Tech had a banner year, winning the Big 12 Conference regular season title and earning the school’s first bid to the NCAA Championships, while Petty was named the league and region coach of the year and Adams and Kilgo earned All-Big 12 doubles honors. The Lady Raider won 19 matches for the first time since 1987 and had four players notched 20 victories in singles in a season for the first time since 1988.
