Potgeiter and Holcomb Advance to Semis at UNT Invite

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Lady Raiders had a productive day at the North Texas Invitational as junior Kerryn Poteiter and freshman Lindsey Holcomb advanced to the semi-finals of their respective flights.

Potgeiter played in the white flight singles and won her first match against Casey Kennedy form SMU 6-3, 6-3. She turned around in the second match and won in three sets over Daiana Negreanu of UTA 1-6, 6-2, 10-1.

Freshman Lindsey Holcomb in her first collegiate competition won both her matches in the gold flight singles in straight sets. She beat Sandra Vucic of ACU 6-3, 7-5 and then continued her roll beating Heather Brien of SEU 6-3, 6-4.

Freshman Stefanie Peana won her first collegiate match beating Audrey Hernandez of LEE 6-2, 6-1. She lost in the quarterfinals to Irina Parashiv of UNT 6-4,6-2.

Senior Samantha van der Drift won her first match of the season in straight sets 6-1, 6-3 but lost a heartbreaker in three sets to Catalina Cruz 2-6, 7-6, 10-7. Sophomore Simone Templeton playing in the same flight won her first but lost her semi-final match 6-3, 6-2.

In doubles action the team of van der Drift and Kelsy Garland won their first match 8-6 and will play tomorrow in the semi-finals at 9 a.m. Peana and Potgeiter also played doubles winning their first round 8-3, but losing 8-4 to Paraschiv and Madura Ranganathan of UNT 8-4.

Tech will continue action tomorrow at the North Texas Invite at 9 a.m. with doubles play.
