MIDLAND, Texas – It was just one of those days.
Texas Tech struggled to find any kind of success on Saturday at the Midland Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational held at the Midland Racquet Club.
“It was a tough day for the us today,” said associate head coach Hayden Perez. “In singles, I hope the these ladies can really learn a little about themselves and what they need to work on going forward. Both doubles teams played some good doubles, but we did not take advantage of some opportunities and game points.
“It’s the first tournament of the year and I believe a good learning experience for us. We will continue to work hard and improve as a team.”
The Lady Raiders uncharacteristically went 0-5 in singles play on Saturday, including senior Nikki Sanders, who saw a 13-match winning streak get snapped.
The lone bright spot came in doubles, where Beatriz Machado Santos and Samantha Czarniak Rego defeated Kansas’ Paulina Los and Maria Jose Cardona, 8-5, and then topped Penn State’s Devan McCluskey and Jacqueline Zuhse, 8-5. The duo lost in the quarterfinals to fourth seeded Simona Parajova and Stefanie Tan of TCU, 8-3.
