Lady Raiders Complete Day One of Roberta Alison Fall Classic

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's tennis squad completed day one of the Roberta Alison Fall Classic this evening at the Alabama Tennis Complex. Tech advances four players to the second round in singles play and one doubles team to the championship match. In doubles play, the duo of Katja Kovacic and Erin Hunter advanced to the doubles championship match in flight "A". Kovacic/Hunter first defeated Auburn's team of Tori Almagne and Sarah Suitor (8-4) then beat Maria Zivicicova and Andrea Kurekova of South Alabama. Tech's team of Tara Browning and Cigdem Duru lost their first doubles match of the season losing to Ana Rupic and DiJana Stanic (8-3). In singles play, the Lady Raiders advanced four to the second round of play. In singles flight "A", Duru defeated Auburn's Jelena Jovic (6-3, 2-6, 6-3) and will face Rupic of South Alabama again in round two. Hunter continued her hot streak by winning her fifth straight singles match against Samford's Bethany Benson. The Lady Raiders will resume matches on Saturday at the Roberta Alison Classic beginning at 8 a.m.
