LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Lady Raider tennis team concluded the first annual Scarborough Specialties Texas Tech Classic on Saturday at the McLeod Tennis Center in Lubbock, Texas. Freshman Cigdem Duru and junior Katja Kovacic claimed two singles championships.

The Lady Raiders finished the tournament with three second place finishes in singles action. In flight "A", junior Tara Browning fell to teammate Duru 6-3, 6-2, while freshman Erin Hunter lost to Katherine Harris of North Texas 7-5, 6-1, in flight "C". In flight "D", freshman Janet Durham fell to Kelli Royer 6-2, 6-3, also of North Texas.

In doubles action, the duo of Duru and Browning outlasted New Mexico State's Lejla Porobic and Sandra Mayr, 8-1, to win the doubles title in flight "A". In flight "B", Kovacic and Hunter remained undefeated as they beat teammates Wagley and Durham, 8-1.

Coach Cari Groce is proud of the Lady Raider's performance and credits the strength of schedule for their success.

"I thought we performed really well overall this weekend," Groce said. "It really helps us playing a stronger schedule and going to a tournament like Alabama's. It just makes us raise our level of play. When another team comes in, and they are not at that level, then we just dominate them."

The Lady Raiders will look to continue their dominance as they travel to Los Angeles next weekend, Oct. 7-10, to compete in the All-American Championships.
