Lady Raider Tennis Opens Play At Air Force Academy
Sandra Dynka teamed with Caroline Starck to advance to the semifinals in Flight B Doubles. October 5, 2012 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Texas Tech battled through another tournament plagued with inclement weather, as play was delayed at the 2012 U.S. Air Force Academy Women’s Tennis Invitational on Friday. After 14 hours, the Lady Raiders did manage to get play completed on the first day. Tech’s Nikki Sanders and Elizabeth Ullathorne upended Wyoming’s Sasa Nemcova and Alexandra Kovacs, 8-3, to advance to the Flight A Doubles semifinals. In Flight B Doubles, Caroline Starck and Sandra Dynka topped South Dakota State’s Florencia Magni and Beatriz Souza, 8-3. Starck and Dynka then pulled out a hard-fought victory over Arizona’s Laura Oldham and Hailey Johnson, 9-8 (5), to advance to the Flight B semifinals. Nikki Sanders and Elizabeth Ullathorne each recorded first round wins in singles play as the tournament moved indoors. Sanders topped Air Force’s Hannah Dake, 6-4, 6-1, while Ullathorne dropped Mandy van den Eerenbeemt of Denver, 6-2, 6-2. Caroline Starck was not as lucky, as she lost to Washington State’s Ksenia Googe, 6-7, 7-6, 1-0 (10-5). Play will resume on Saturday. 2012 U.S. Air Force Academy Women’s Tennis Invitational
