Aviles and Ullathorne Advance at Regional|

LUBBOCK, Texas - The second day of competition at the 2009 Wilson / ITA Regional Championships in Waco concluded with all eight Lady Raiders seeing action in singles and doubles.
Lorena Aviles continued her winning ways in Saturday's singles matches. Lorena started off Saturday morning with a decisive win over the qualifying draw's No. 1 seed Nikola Matovicova of UTA, 6-0 and 6-0. Then, in the afternoon, the freshman from Ecuador defeated TCU's Maria Babanova, 1-6, 6-4, and 7-5.
Coach Todd Petty commented, "Lorena did something today that's not often accomplished - she won her qualifying round matches to advance to the main draw, and then won her opening match in the main draw. She's one of the top juniors in the world and we're very pleased to see her talent emerge." Freshman Elizabeth Ullathorne also advanced to the round of 32 after defeating Houston's Joanna Kacprzyk, 6-2, 6-4.
In the main draw, Sandra Dynka, Kelsy Garland, and Natalie Leitch dropped their matches and begin play in the first round of the consolation bracket on Sunday.
In doubles action, Kelsy Garland and Elizabeth defeated Megan Erica Bedeau and Sarah Burton from UTPA., 8-1. Kelsy and Elizabeth will face the duo from UT on Sunday morning in the round of 16.
Natlie Leitch and Stefanie Peana won their opening doubles match over UNT's Ashley Akin and Shannon MacKenzie, 8-5, and then fell to Janelle Cuthbertson and Ashley Turpin from Texas A&M, 8-6.
Kerryn Potgieter and Caroline Starck won their opening match against UTSA's Vivian Carrillo and Caroline Dedering, 8-2, and then dropped their next match against Irina Paraschiv and Madura Ranganathan of UNT, 8-5.
The Lady Raiders will be back in action tomorrow with doubles beginning at 10:30 AM and singles beginning at 12:30 PM, continuing the Wilson / ITA Texas Regional at the Waco Tennis Center. The tournament runs through Tuesday, October 20.
