Day Two of ITA Southwest Regionals Comes to a Close

LUBBOCK, Texas - The second day of the 2007 Wilson/ITA Southwest Regionals, host by Texas Tech, featured some hard-hitting action, as the first round of the main draw singles and third round of main draw doubles was underway.

The Lady Raiders stepped up the competition as they were able to notch in some wins in both doubles and singles. In doubles Janet Durham and Kelsy Garland topped LSU's Hannah Robinson and Tiffany Tucker, 8-3. Kerryn Potgieter and Samantha van der Drift also moved through the second round with ease as they defeated UTSA's Julia Cirne-Lima and Giana Oliveira, 8-3.

In singles, van der Drift made quick work of Karen Scida from UTSA, 6-0, 6-0, and Garland took down Tiffany Clifford from A&M, 6-2, 6-3. Simone Templeton was the next to strike for the Raiders, as she edged Texas State's Andrea Giraldo, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. In the final TTU match of the day, Durham was unable to put off Mariayeri Gutierrez from Lamar, losing 7-6(4), 6-2.
