Kilgo, Malysheva Advance To Consolation Quarterfinals At Regionals
Sofya Malysheva advanced to the consolation singles quarterfinals on Sunday. October 21, 2012 WACO, Texas - Kenna Kilgo and Sofya Malysheva kept Texas Tech alive at the ITA Texas Regional Championships on Sunday, as the pair each advanced to the consolation singles quarterfinals at the Hurd Tennis Center. Kilgo and Malysheva both dropped first round matches in the main draw, but have turned it around on the back draw. Kilgo toppled Ilona Serchenko of North Texas, 7-5, 6-2 to advance to the quarterfinals, while Malysheva won her third straight match with 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7) win over North Texas' Emelia Box. The pair resume play on Monday at 10:30 a.m. Samantha Adams, who is ranked No. 76 nationally, advanced to the quarterfinals of the main draw after using a straight, 6-2, 6-2 win over Texas A&M's Stefanie Hristov. Adams' run ended in the quarterfinals, where she fell to No. 17 Cristina Stancu of Texas A&M, 6-3, 7-5. Elizabeth Ullathorne had her eight-match winning streak snapped in the Round of 16 by Baylor's Ema Burgic, 6-1, 6-0. Texas Tech advance three doubles squads to the Round of 16 of the main draw, but only one survived on Sunday. The tandem of Nikki Sanders and Rashmi Teltumbde upset TCU's No. 16 duo of Millie Nichols and Olivia Smith, 8-6.
