Potgieter and Tempelton Move to Round of 16 at ITA Regionals

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech's Kerryn Potgieter and Simone Templeton advance to the round of 16 in qualifying action of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Southwest Regional Championships held on the campus of TCU.

Junior Kerryn Potgieter beat Houston's Neila Starratt 6-1, 6-2 in her first match. She continued to cruise in the round of 32 winning 6-3, 6-2 over UT-San Antonio's Caroline Dedering.

Sophomore Simone Templeton won her first round against North Texas' Rachel Wilhelm 7-5, 6-3. She faced Vicky Michaud of UT-El Paso in the next round and Templeton won again 6-4, 6-1.

Freshman Lindsey Holcomb beat Sloane Mathis of LSU 6-4, 6-2 before falling in the round of 32 to Angela Dangond of Louisiana-Lafayette 7-5, 6-1.

In the first round freshman Stefanie Peana lost the first set to Marina DeLuca of Louisiana-Lafayette before winning the next two sets and taking the match 2-6, 6-4, 7-5. Junior Kyla Coleman fell in the first round 7-5, 6-2 to Louisiana-Monroe's Lena Satge.

Louisiana-Monroe's Marion Lehmann beat freshman Natalie Leitch 7-6, 7-6, but Leitch won her consolation match over Lamar's Manami Kuroda 6-3, 6-4.

Tech struggled in double's action as the duo of senior Samantha van der Drift and sophomore Kelsy Garland were the only winners. The team beat Vicky Michaud and Megan Pritchard of UTEP 8-2.

The ITA Regional resumes action starting at 9 a.m. as Tech will have singles and doubles playing throughout the day
