Texas Tech's Zlebnik defeated in Rolex women's tennis regional semifinal
AUSTIN, Texas - Texas Tech women's tennis player Zana Zlebnik was defeated in the semifinals of the 1997 ITA Rolex Southwest Regional Tournament by No. 2 seed Barbara Navarro of Baylor 6-2, 6-1 Saturday at the University of Texas in Austin.
Zlebnik, a 6-foot freshman from Maribor, Slovenia, won four singles matches en route to her first American semifinal match before losing the 6-2, 6-1 contest to Navarro. Navarro went on to win the championship in her next match, a 6-1, 6-0 victory against UTEP's Tonja Magoc. Zlebnik ends her first fall tournament season with a 7-4 singles record.
The Rolex competition included the top-64 singles players in the Southwest region.
The Texas Tech women's tennis team is back in action in February for the start of the 1998 spring season.
