LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's tennis team won their second match in as many days with a 4-2 victory over the Green Wave of Tulane.
Play on Saturday morning at the McLeod Tennis Center began with six singles matches.
The Lady Raiders jumped out to a 2-0 lead when Ecuadorian native, Lorena Aviles won her match over Marcela Fonseca at the No. 6 singles spot, 6-2, 6-2, and Kelsy Garland won her No. 2 singles match over Elizabeth Hamlin, 6-4, 6-1.
Tulane's Mariam Kurdadze topped Sandra Dynka at the No. 1 singles position 7-5, 6-1.
The Lady Raiders increased their lead with freshman Caroline Starck's 6-3, 6-2, victory over Hila Elster at the No. 4 position.
With four matches completed, two matches in play, and Texas Tech holding a 3-1 margin, rain covered the courts and forced a halt to play.
The teams moved indoors to the Lubbock Country Club to complete the two interrupted singles matches.
After winning the opening set 6-4 at the No. 3 singles position, Elizabeth Ullathorne dropped two sets to Emma Levy, 6-0, 6-4, and Tulane closed Texas Tech's lead to 3-2.
Veteran Natalie Leitch faced off against Lindsay Dvorak in the No. 5 singles spot, the final singles match of the day.
A Tulane win would even the match and play would then continue with the doubles matches. A Texas Tech win would give the Lady Raiders their second win in two days.
Natalie won the first set, 7-6 dropped the second set, 6-4, and then gave Texas Tech the win with her 6-3 win in the third set.
The doubles matches were not played.
The Lady Raiders close out their opening home matches at 10 a.m. Sunday morning at the McLeod Tennis Center as they host the Lobos of New Mexico.
After Sunday's matches, the Lady Raiders play their next seven matches on the road before returning to their home courts on March 3.
