TEMPE, Ariz. – The No. 45 Texas Tech Lady Raider tennis team opens play at the ITA Kickoff Weekend at the Whiteman Tennis Center on the campus of Arizona State University.

Texas Tech is one of 60 schools competing across the country for the 15 vacant spots at the ITA National Women's Team Indoor Championship, to be hosted next month by the University of Virginia.

The Lady Raiders are seeded in a bracket with host No. 20 Arizona State, No. 16 USC and No. 48 Sacramento State. The top seed of the weekend, Arizona State will take on the fourth seeded Red Raiders starting at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. USC will take on Sacramento State beginning at 9:30 a.m.

The Lady Raiders (1-0) are led this season Elizabeth Ullathorne and Samantha Adams at No. 1 and No. 2 singles.

“We have seven players that top to bottom give us a chance to win each time we go out on the court,” said Lady Raid head coach Todd Petty. “What we have to do is find the right matchups that are going to make us successful when we face an opponent.”

Saturday’s match is third-ever meeting between Texas Tech and Arizona State. The Sun Devils lead the series, 2-0.

The winners of the Texas Tech-ASU and USC-Sacramento State matches will square off with a chance to advance to Virginia. The losers will battle in a consolation match on Sunday.
