LUBBOCK, TX - The Texas Tech women's tennis team begins the spring season this weekend at the New Mexico Invitational in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The Lady Raiders open against the Shockers of Wichita State on Saturday at 4 p.m. (CT) with host New Mexico taking on UTEP at the Randy Briggs Tennis bubble at the Linda Estes Tennis Complex.

The Lady Raiders have five returners led by senior Kelsy Garland. A Lubbock Coronado graduate, Garland, has 55 career singles victories and is seventh on the all-time list. She also holds down the seventh spot on the career doubles list with 57 wins.

Texas Tech returns sophomores Lorena Aviles, Sandra Dynka, Caroline Starck, and Elizabeth Ullathorne. Starck, from Williams Bay, Wis., captured 14 wins at the No. 5 singles position in her freshman season and is second among Tech players at that position.

The veterans are joined by freshmen Samantha Adams, Haley Fournier, and Nikki Sanders.

"We're excited about the season-opener in Albuquerque," noted head coach Todd Petty. "Our five returning players made solid progress during the fall and the three freshmen have added significant balance to the team."

Winners of both matches at the New Mexico Invitational will play Sunday at 1 p.m. (CT). The consolation match will begin at 10 a.m. (CT). Complete results and recaps will be available on texastech.com following the matches each day.
