The Texas Tech women's tennis team will battle Abilene Christian on Wed., Jan. 31, at Nautilus in Lubbock at 1 p.m. The Red Raiders with a 3-0 record enter the contest with their best start in seven years. Abilene Christian looks to defend its 3-0 start.

Each team competed in the ACU Ladies Invitational last weekend to start the spring season. Tech and ACU both defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Oral Roberts and North Texas.

"I am very pleased with our start, but I expect us to only get better as the season progresses," said head coach Virginia Brown. "ACU is a very strong program and will be a good test for our young team."

Sophomore Sonnia Orellana has not allowed a game to an opponent in three matches this season. Orellana along with the rest of the team has won each match in two-sets.

The Red Raiders look to extend their series lead against the Wildcats. Tech, 20-2 leads the all-time series. The two losses came in 1996 and 2000.
