LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Lady Raiders (3-3) suffered a Valentine's Day loss to Rice (5-3) this afternoon at Jake Hess Tennis Stadium, 6-1.

The Owls won each of the doubles matches and then won five of six singles matches to claim their fifth win of the season.

No. 1 doubles, Kelsy Garland and Elizabeth Ullathorne lost to Rice's Julie Chao and Anna Guzman, 8-5.

Texas Tech's duo of Kerryn Potgieter and Caroline Starck lost their No. 2 doubles contest to Alex Rasch and Jessica Jackson, 8-5.

The Owls swept the doubles matches as Rebecca Lin and Rebekka Hanle edged Natalie Leitch and Lorena Aviles at the No. 3 spot, 8-6.

At No. 1 singles, #73 Rebekka Hanle defeated Sandra Dynka, 6-2, 6-0. Rice's Julie Chao stopped Kelsy Garland at the No. 2 singles position, 6-0, 6-2. In the No. 3 singles position, Jessica Jackson won, 6-4, 6-2, over Elizabeth Ullathorne. Texas Tech's Natalie Leitch lost to Ana Guzman at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-1. In the last completed match of the day, Rebecca Lin stopped Caroline Starck at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-3.

Texas Tech travels to Mississippi next weekend for matches against Southern Miss and Ole Miss.

 

 

The Lady Raiders have four more non-conference matches on the road before returning home for their opening conference match against Baylor on March 3 at 3 p.m. at the McLeod Tennis Center.
