Lady Raiders Climb To No. 20 In ITA Rankings

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech climbed 12 spots to No. 20 in this week's Intercollegiate Tennis Association women's tennis rankings.

It is the highest ranking in school history for the Lady Raiders, who are 8-2 on the season and 6-2 against ranked opponents. Texas Tech went 2-1 over the weekend, with wins over No. 45 Long Beach State and No. 36 UNLV.

The Lady Raiders began the spring with its highest preseason ranking from the ITA at No. 48 and have since climbed 28 spots.

Texas Tech is one of four Big 12 Conference teams in the Top 25, joining No. 9 Texas, No. 12 Baylor and No. 23 Texas A&M. Other conference schools ranked are No. 52 Oklahoma State, No. 54 Oklahoma and No. 73 Missouri.

Elizabeth Ullathorne also climbed into the rankings this week, as the Texas Tech junior is ranked 122nd nationally. Ullathorne, who plays No. 1 for the Lady Raiders, is 6-9 on the season in singles play.

The tandem of Samantha Adams and Kenna Kilgo moved from No. 57 to No. 47 in the ITA doubles rankings. The duo is 13-9 on the season and 6-4 in dual matches playing at the No. 1 position.

Texas Tech, who was picked third in the conference preseason poll, opens Big 12 Conference play on Thursday against No. 12 Baylor at the McLeod Tennis Center at 3 p.m.
