LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's tennis team will conclude home play for the 2001 campaign this weekend when they host conference opponents Kansas on Saturday, March 24, and Nebraska on Sunday, March 25. Each match will take place at 11 a.m. at Hillcrest Country Club in Lubbock.

The Red Raiders enter the weekend behind 80th-ranked freshman Irina Tereschenko. She is coming off a win against SMU's 25th-ranked Dee Dee Herring, 6-3, 6-4. This was the second time she has defeated a player in the top 50 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings. Tereschenko is posting a team leading record 9-2 overall and 4-2 in Big 12 play.

In doubles action Tereschenko has teamed up with sophomore Beverly Dawson this season in the No. 1 position. The duo is 9-2, 4-2 in the league play. They have answered the call when battling tough opponents by defeating SMU's Megan Russell and Chrissie Terrill, 8-5.

The No. 48 Jayhawks, 9-6, 3-3 in league play are coming off a win against the University of Houston today. Kansas' freshmen twins Courtney and Kristen Steinbrock will make a homecoming as the two attended Coronado High School. The duo is playing in doubles together and is ranked 43rd nationally.

Tech looks to upset the 54th-ranked Cornhuskers who are struggling in the Lone Star State this year with its two losses of the season coming against the University of Texas and Texas A&M. Nebraska 13-2 overall and 1-2 in conference play are coming off a win against Cal State Northridge.

Following this weekend's matches the Red Raiders will bounce back into action next Saturday, March 31 in Stillwater, Okla., against conference opponent Oklahoma State.
