Red Raiders To Battle K-State
April 8, 1999 LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's tennis team continues its six weeks worth of road trips this Saturday with a conference match against Kansas State University in Manhatten, Kansas. The Red Raiders haven't had a home match since March 7 against Kansas. The match is scheduled to begin at 10:00 am. Tech has lost six straight on the road and seven straight overall. Currently, Tech is 2-6 in the Big 12 (4-13 overall). On the season Kansas State is 4-13 overall (2-4 in Big 12) and in their last outing upset No. 65 Nebraska, which ended a six-match losing streak. Kansas State is led by No. 1 singles player Martina Pospisilova and No. 2 singles Anna Pampoulova. Pospisilova is 7-8 overall but sports a 3-1 conference record. Pampoulova also has a losing overall record, 8-9, but like her teammate has fared better in conference play, boasting a 5-2 mark. Pospisilova also teams with Kathy Chuda to form the Wildcats top doubles tandem. They are 4-4 overall. Tech's top player this season has been sophomore Alenka Ovin at No. 2 singles. She owns an 11-6 overall record (4-4 in Big 12). Last year's Big 12 Freshman of the Year Zana Zlebnik is second for the Red Raiders with seven wins. Freshman Noel Ruiz has six wins playing at No. 5 and 6 singles. Junior Amanda Earhart has battled injuries this year but still has five wins to her credit at No. 2 and 3 singles. After playing Kansas State, Tech is off until Friday, April 16 when they travel to Oklahoma State University. Start time is 1:00 pm. On Saturday, April 17 the Red Raiders will play at the University of Oklahoma. That match is slated to begin at 10:00 am.
