LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 21 Texas Tech Lady Red Raider tennis team made history on Tuesday, earning the distinction as the first squad in the 35-year history of the program to earn a berth into the NCAA Championships.

“What a great honor for team and Texas Tech University,” said Lady Raider head coach Todd Petty. “It really shows the effort our team has put in this season. This is an exciting time for us and I could not be prouder that this group of young ladies.”

Texas Tech (19-5) joins No. 10 Miami (17-4), No. 39 Utah (11-10) and North Florida (16-4) in Coral Gables, Fla., for one of the 16 NCAA Regional Championships announced on Tuesday. The Lady Raiders will face Utah in the first round, while host Miami will square off with North Florida.

Utah finished seventh in the stout Pac-12 Conference and gave the Lady Raiders one of their five losses earlier this season in a neutral site match in Las Vegas, 4-3. Utah leads the all-time series, 3-2.

Miami will be hosting a regional for the eighth straight year and is a perfect 14-0 at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center this season, including a 5-0 mark against ITA Top 25 teams. The Hurricanes finished the season third in the Atlantic Coast Conference with a 9-2 record. Texas Tech has never faced Miami.

North Florida won the Atlantic Sun Conference with a school-record 9-0 mark and the Ospreys have won 12 straight. North Florida lost to Miami earlier in the season, 7-0. The Lady Raiders have never faced North Florida.

Texas Tech is coming off of its first-ever Big 12 Conference regular season title after recording an 8-1 record in league play. The Lady Raiders have also won 19 matches for the first time since winning a school-record 20 in 1987.

The Lady Raiders are led by sophomore standout Samantha Adams, who is currently ranked No. 104 in singles and has teamed with Kenna Kilgo for a No. 28 national ranking in doubles.

Adams (20-15) and Kilgo (28-8) are two of four Lady Raiders who have won 20 matches this year, joining Caroline Starck (27-9) and Nikki Sanders (25-6).
