Samantha Adams, Kenna Kilgo Earn All-Big 12 Honors

Samantha Adams and Kenna Kilgo were honored by the Big 12 Conference for the second straight year.

LUBBOCK, Texas – For the second consecutive year, Texas Tech’s Samantha Adams and Kenna Kilgo have been honored by the Big 12 Conference.

The dynamic doubles tandem was named All-Big 12 in doubles, while Adams was selected to the All-Big 12 singles team for the second consecutive year.

Adams and Kilgo are currently 21-8 on the season and ranked No. 16 nationally. The duo has been selected to the NCAA Doubles Championships for the second consecutive season. Adams and Kilgo won their second consecutive Big 12 Conference position title at No. 1 Doubles this past season.

Adams and Kilgo also earned doubles honor last season and were selected to participate in the NCAA Championships. This is Adams’ third straight appearance on the All-Big 12 doubles team.

Adams and Kilgo are just the third tandem in program history to win All-Big 12 honors in back-to-back seasons. Irina Tereschenko and Beverly Dawson did it in 2002 and 2003, while Tara Browning and Lakann Wagley pulled off the double-double in 2005 and 2006. Adams is the only player to win the award three times.

Adams, who is currently ranked No. 80 in the nation, is 16-19 on the season from the No. 1 singles position. She has been ranked as high as No. 49 this season. She becomes just the third Lady Raider to win All-Big 12 singles honors twice, joining Tereschenko (2002, 2004) and Samantha van der Drift (2007, 2009).

Texas Tech will host the first two rounds of the 2013 NCAA Championships this weekend. Ticket prices are $5 for adults and $3 for youth, while children under two are free. No. 15 Duke will face No. 37 Ole Miss at 11 a.m., followed by No. 17 Texas Tech against No. 71 Charleston at 2 p.m. at the McLeod Tennis Center on Saturday. The winners will meet on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the McLeod Tennis Center for the right to advance to the Round of 16 in Champaign, Ill., on the campus of the University of Illinois beginning May 17.

Adams and Kilgo will begin play in the NCAA Doubles Championships on May 22 in Champaign, Ill.
